Story

I am running in honour of Alice's memory, my beloved daughter who was murdered last year. Alice often teased me about my running, an activity that I took up when I hit 50, but she also encouraged me enormously and I know that she would want me to keep doing it. Alice was there when I completed my first 10k run at Osterley last year and she would be proud to see that I am still running.  I was also moved by the sight of 6000 yellow ribbons donned by the runners at the Ealing Half Marathon, two days before Alice was found  and I vowed at the time that I would join them this year.

Alice was a keen musician, who wrote and sang her own songs. She played the violin and piano and could turn her hand to any instrument - she was learning the guitar and hoped, eventually, to have a career in music. We have set up Alice’s Youth Music Memorial Fund in memory of the joy she found in music  and to give this opportunity to other young people.

So far the fund has raised over £400,000 for the National Foundation for Youth Music which supports over 400 music projects around the country for children and young people in challenging circumstances. These include disability, poverty, mental health issues or difficult living circumstances such as being a refugee or in care.  Participants frequently find that the music-making opportunities are live-changing, developing their personal and social skills as well as their musicality, which in turn helps them reach their full potential in life.  We wish to grow the fund as a last legacy in honour of Alice's memory
