Story
A Local Girl, A Local Marathon, A Local Charity - Giving Worldwide Aid!
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I have chosen the Piers Simon Appeal because Piers and I grew up together on adjoining farms in Chilthorne Domer, Somerset.
His grandparents were great friends with our family. Henry, Ceilia and Luke are still great friends, people you can turn to in times of trouble.
In December 2004 when the Tsunami hit Thailand, I like millions of other people watched in horror and disbelief at the total devastion caused in such a short space of time.
Then I remember hearing the dreadful news that someone I knew was involved. I had not seen Piers or Luke in years but I would regularly bump into their dad so was always up to date with how they were and what they were up to.
I remember sitting there feeling so helpless, devastated for the family, hoping by some miracle that Piers would be found safe and alive.
It was not to be. I was at my parents farm the day of the private funeral in the local church. I heard the bells toll and I knew what was taking place. My parents and I went to the memorial service at Forde Abbey - which was incredibly moving and uplifting. The family showing their bravery and determination.
So the Piers Simon Appeal was born and as you can see from their website they are helping worldwide communities and providing much needed help.
There mission statement is simple but effective:
“ To aid the regeneration of communities and to alleviate suffering and hardship caused by disasters worldwide regardless of race, religion or politics. ”
