Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I am doing this walk for both dementia and Alzheimer's sufferers.
My Grandma Marion (as pictured, my Mums mother) developed the disease when I was still quite young so I never really understood why my Grandma couldn't remember my name, or why she had stopped taking me out on a Saturday for a McDonald's, a woolworths pick and pix and a balloon!! All I knew was that my Grandma was slowly disappearing. When she entered a home she received the best care available for her disease, but there was always so much more to learn, so much to understand & so much more help that can be given!! To help loved ones understand what is happening, be it slow or fast & to help them adjust, a sit down with a cup of tea and a chat about it all would have been all the support in the world. I intend to take part in this walk for my Grandad Maurice (pictured- my dad's father) who I also loved very, very dearly. One of the smartest most courageous gentle men in the world!! I visited him & my grandma (who took on full care of him until she couldn't any longer) every Thursday from ages 4 to 16 so we spent a lot of time together & when he developed the disease it all happened very quick, like a switch had gone off in his head. He also went into a home & received the best care we could. Raising awareness is a massive thing, but also doing this walk for all the current sufferers and the families going through this disease and the heart ship that goes with watching your family member go through it, particularly someone very close to my partners heart.
Any donation big or small is absolutely welcome & I thank you greatly from the bottom of my heart as something that means a whole heap to me & my family.
