The London royal parks half · 8 October 2023

There are over 23 rare salivary gland cancers. All have limited treatment options and poor outcomes. More research is desperately needed. Salivary Gland Cancer UK supports patients, families and friends, those treating patients and doing research. Collaboration to move things forward for us all.

Story

On the 8th October Bex, Clare, Lucy and Rosie are running the London Royal Parks half marathon - more than 21km!! Some of you know this but for those of you don't, that means that as well as the race itself, you have to run 3-4 times a week for at least 5 months beforehand! That really should be enough of a story.

But there is a reason -

In January this year, Rosie's cousin Molly was diagnosed with Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma, a rare salivary gland cancer affecting 5 in a million people in the UK. Symptoms of Molly's cancer were not recognised early and treatment options are minimal. Sadly, there are many rare cancers and together with Molly, we want to improve outcomes of all.

Salivary Gland Cancer UK supports patients, family and friends to cope with the effects of rare cancers. Critically, it is driving research with the intention to increase treatment options, raise awareness for earlier detection, and build bridges between medical staff and those impacted.
