London Marathon 2019 · 28 April 2019 ·

There are 14.7million people – that’s more than one in six – in the UK living with a neurological condition. Here at the country's leading neurological centre, we’re passionate about supporting the hospital to help improve the lives of patients through treatment and research.

Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Running the London Marathon is something we have always wanted to do. However, our world got turned upside down when Rosie was diagnosed with a brain tumour, the size of an orange, just 3.5 years ago. Originally diagnosed as a ear infection, but when symptoms persisted, her family encouraged her to go for a MRI scan. We were all shocked when the radiographer couldn't tell Rosie what she saw, but at 11pm that night, urged Rosie to go to A&E immediately. At the time of diagnosis, the doctors told Rosie to not expect to leave hospital again.  It will never be forgotten when all Rosie's family came to hospital that night and slept on an ant's nest!

In true form, Rosie overcame all what was put in front of her. After 5 major surgeries and 2 sets of radio therapy, we couldn't be prouder to be taking part in the London Marathon for the first time, on behalf of the National Brain Appeal.

Rosie really couldn't have gone through all of this without Justin spurring her on, the love from all her friends and family, and the generosity from her colleagues.

We are running with Rosie's surgeon, world leading neurosurgeon Mr Neil Kitchen, which inevitably makes this even more special.

We would love to see you all there on Sunday 28 April!

Thank you for all your kind donations.

The National Brain Appeal raises money for The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in Queen Square, London − it’s the UK’s leading centre of excellence for treating diseases of the brain, spine and the nervous system − such as brain tumours, epilepsy, stroke, dementia, Parkinson’s disease and motor neurone disease.

Around 12.5million people in the UK live with a neurological condition − more than the number of people living with cancer, heart disease and diabetes combined.

Since it formed in 1984, the £40million raised by the charity and its supporters has been invested in projects that have had a huge impact on treatments in a range of neurological diseases. Many have been UK firsts, including a dedicated Brain Tumour Unit, a combined state-of-the-art operating theatre and an MRI scanner for greater precision and more effective surgery for brain tumours and epilepsy, and a clinical team dedicated to brain tumour clinical trials.

The charity also helped to fund the Dementia Research Centre which led to the identification of the first Alzheimer's gene, the Centre for Neuromuscular Diseases to research and develop new treatments, and the Neuroimaging Analysis Centre where superior quality imaging (scans) supports both research and treatment across the whole range of neurological diseases.
