Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon 2017 · 8 October 2017 ·

The North East Trust for Aphasia (NETA) supports people with aphasia and their carers. Aphasia means difficulties with communication, often following stroke. The person with aphasia can have problems speaking, understanding, reading and writing. This can have major effects for both the person and their family in terms of social life, work and relationships.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am running my first (and probably only!) marathon in October 2017. I've enjoyed running with friends for the past 6 years, and now having completed some half marathons, and with my 40th birthday looming soon, I decided it was time for "the big one"!

I am fundraising for NETA, a fantastic small charity based in Newcastle, that works with people with aphasia and their families. I used to work at NETA before training as a speech and language therapist, so have first hand experience of the invaluable support and advice they offer, all on a very small budget. Your sponsorship is greatly appreciated and I know that running 26.2 miles is nothing compared with overcoming a communication impairment after a stroke (even if I do whinge about sore legs.)
