Climbing Kilimanjaro for Street League · 24 September 2019

Street League supports young people aged 14-30 who live in disadvantaged communities to help them overcome their socio-economic barriers to employment and give them the opportunity to build brighter futures. Sport is at the heart of our programmes, developing self-worth, confidence and motivation.

Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

This weekend I will set off with my wife and two close friends to attempt to conquer Mount Kilimanjaro and climb 5,895m over 7 days (28 Sep - 4 Oct 2019).

This will be one of the toughest physical tests I have ever undertaken but I do love a good challenge and somehow persuaded three others that this would be a good idea.

I am also honoured to be raising money on behalf of Street League where my friend, and fellow climber, Lindsey MacDonald works overseeing strategy and impact. Street League was set up to tackle youth unemployment in a sustainable way - working with young people, employers and communities in 14 cities across the UK to alleviate poverty in the most disadvantaged communities. I am a big believer in the power of sport and teamwork to change lives and in the key role of charities in making the world a better place.

Over the past twelve months Street League has helped 1,709 young people move into work, education or training. It is not just about getting a job, its about developing confidence,  making friends, learning new skills and gaining qualifications. If you would like to know more about what Street League is doing then you can visit the live impact dashboard at:
https://www.streetleague.co.uk/impact to hear some of the young people's stories.

As a group we are covering the full costs of the trip ourselves so all donations gratefully received will go directly to Street League. It will also provide a great incentive to drag ourselves up the mountain. It is such a great cause I'm kicking off the funding myself.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to Street League So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
