Our mission is to stop men dying by suicide and we believe death by suicide is preventable. Yet, in the UK suicide is still the single leading cause of death of men under 50. At James’ Place, we provide proven, professional therapy for men in suicidal crisis to help them find hope for the future.

Story

In December 2016, Harry Wentworth-Stanley, Rory Buchanan, Sam Greenly and Toby Fenwicke-Clennell will set off from La Gomera in the Canary Islands and embark on a 3,000 mile unsupported trans-Atlantic row to Antigua in the Caribbean.

The boys will be rowing in memory of Harry's older brother, James, who took his own life in December 2006. The proposed race start date is 15th December 2016, the 10 year anniversary of his death. James' parents have started a charity in his name which they will be raising money for  - The James Wentworth-Stanley Memorial Fund. The purpose of the charity is to raise awareness of depression amongst young people and to tackle the shocking statistic that suicide is the biggest killer of young men in the UK.

They will be taking part in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge, and will face 50ft waves, hurricane strength winds and 40 degree heat whilst suffering from salt sores, blisters, sleep deprivation, sea-sickness and fatigue. The voyage takes an average of 60 days, during which the boys will row in 2 hour shifts, non-stop, until they reach English Harbour in Antigua!

This voyage is widely considered to be one of the toughest challenges on the planet, pushing those who attempt it to their limits. To this day, many more people have climbed Everest, reached the North Pole or ventured into space than have successfully rowed the Atlantic.

Alongside their jobs, they are training 6 days a week and fundraising and sorting logistics around the clock. Please make it all worth their while and donate !
