Please join me in supporting Horton's Kids, a non-profit working to empower children growing up in D.C.'s most under-resourced communities. Horton's Kids offers comprehensive academic, youth development, family engagement, and health/wellness programs for hundreds of children so that they graduate from high school ready for success in college, career, and life.

I've been volunteering as a tutor and mentor with Horton's Kids for 20 years. I've seen Horton's Kids' success in empowering children firsthand. In 2004 I began tutoring and mentoring a five-year-old kindergartner named Jena. We kept on working together, year after year, thanks to the support of Horton's Kids. 

Jena is now a 22-year-old senior attending the University of Rochester on a four-year full-tuition scholarship, majoring in linguistics with a focus on Korean and American Sign Language. Back in 2004, I was helping Jena with reading, writing, and arithmetic. Today, I'm helping Jena with their resume and their career plans after graduation.

So, I am stepping up as a longtime volunteer in the Horton's Kids community to raise money for Give Thanks & Give Back, an annual reception that has grown to be one of the most important sources of funding and awareness for the organization. 

We are looking forward to reconnecting with our community of supporters as we return to the Fairmont Hotel on November 17th, for the 14th Annual Give Thanks and Give Back Gala. Our goal is to raise $275,000 to continue mitigating the effects of Covid-19 in Ward 8. With your support, we can help cultivate the talent and potential of every child in the Wellington Park and Stanton Oaks communities. Will you join us ?
