Story

Roz Copson and Lottie Welch are  going to walk the South West Coast Path from Portland Bill to West Bay pier over two days on Saturday and Sunday 22nd and 23rd April 2017  to raise money for  both The Living Tree Cancer Support group in Bridport and The Fortuneswell Cancer Trust.

The money raised for The Living Tree will be used to support the highly successful Stepping Out project which is a twelve week rolling programme of excercise and health education tailored to the individual needs of local  people recovering from cancer treatment. The project, held in the Bridport Leisure Centre, is run by instructors specially trained in both the physical and emotional rehabilitation of people after a diagnosis of and treatment for any type of cancer.

The money raised for The Fortuneswell Cancer Trust will be used towards the development of the West  Dorset Cancer Centre at Dorset County Hospital. When built, this Centre will provide radiotherapy services, an Outpatients' department  and a reconfigured  chemotherapy suite in Dorchester for people with cancer.

As a member of the Living Tree, Roz is very aware of the  devastating effect a diagnosis of cancer can have on the lives of so many people. Living in a rural area, she has seen how travelling long distances to hospital for cancer treatment can compound an already difficult situation, especially when someone is very frail, ill and reliant on others for transport. To be able to have treatment for cancer closer to home in up-to-date, purpose built, sympathetic  surroundings will be a huge benefit for so many people. Roz and Lottie have also seen the beneficial effects the Stepping Out programme has had on so many members of The Living Tree and are  hoping to raise money to ensure this very deserving project continues to help people living with and beyond a cancer diagnosis.

Our walk is for all local people affected in any way by cancer - it could be us, it could be you. Please think carefully, please give generously.

Thank you from our hearts. Roz and Lottie
