Story

This is joshua's story.

Joshua is six years old and on Saturday the 2nd of May he started to feel unwell in the evening, he was sick all sat night and was sick all of Sunday and very lethargic. Monday Lisa took him to out of hours doctor as it was bank holiday. then extremely worried returned to the doctors again on Tuesday morning where Lisa was told to take him to bury St Edmunds hospital cos he was dehydrated and complaining of abdominal pain. They kept him in over night. On Wednesday they suspected appendicitis but on further investigation and after scanning his heart they realised there was a problem. Joshua had severe heart failure. They told us they needed to get Joshua to a specialist hospital in London which was Evelina children's hospital picu. When we arrived we went straight in to intensive care where Joshua was to spend the next 10 days. We was told Joshua had a virus which caused inflammation of the heart muscle called myocarditis. While in intensive care he was treated by the best doctors and nurses we could ask for. On the first Friday of being there Joshua had to have surgery to put in a breathing tube, to help give his heart a rest, a feeding tube and have a chest drain to drain his lungs as they had filled with fluid due to the heart not pumping properly  (heart failure). When surgery had finished Joshua had about 12 drips going into him, medications to help him. he was such a brave boy never complained once about anything. Apart from needles, he was petrified of them. He was sedated but still nodded when spoken to and would now and again open one eye to give us a wave. Joshua received the best professional care at such a critical time and every consultant, doctors, nurses, play specialist, Russ the music man, treated Joshua and Us parents with respect and kindness and ultimately saved our beautiful boys life. He is now at home were he is starting his long road to recovery and in Joshua's words... Hospital was scary but everyone was lovely and kind. Joshua now wants to be a doctor.
