Story
Ladies and Gentlemen... One moment of your time please.
On Sunday 6th November I will be running (+ walking / crawling if necessary) the New York Marathon and in the process trying to raise as much money as possible for a brilliant charity that is close to my heart... Teenage Cancer Trust.
As many of you will know, I'm not exactly the natural long distance runner; my lifestyle hardly screams out professional athlete (unless you class darts as professional athletics or you can remember George Best's training regime). I feel sorry for my knees having to help move 15st / 90kg+ through the streets of Staten Island, Queens, Brooklyn, Harlem and Manhattan but I know I will do it one way or another.
What is motivating me to complete 26miles / 40km / ~4hrs of hard labour is the thought that in doing so there is a chance I can help TCT to provide much needed care for young people affected by cancer... to create an environment where patients and their familes feel comfortable, energised and motivated themselves. I love TCT and the work it does, especially at places like their new ward at Castle Hill hospital in my hometown of Hull.
I feel very uncomfortable asking people to donate to charity, however, this is a cause worth supporting as generously as possible and it has taken me endless hours of training to get to a position where I can do it and hopefully enjoy the experience. Please do give as generously as you can.
Many thanks
James
(Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity).
