Story
Erin & Ryan welcomed their beautiful boy, Angus, into the world on the 2nd of October 2017. Unfortunately he was very unwell when he was born and required lots of intervention and specialist support, which has been ongoing. He was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy when he was 16months old and has a significant developmental delay, meaning that he is unable to walk independently. Despite this, Angus is a feisty, determined, cheeky 2 year old boy who doesn’t let his disability stop him from getting where he wants to be or communicating his needs and wants.
Angus was lucky enough to receive a Wizzybug through the charity Designability. A wizzybug is a bright red, child-sized powered wheelchair. It is also so much more than this. It is independence, it is accessibility, it is freedom, it is adventure. It provides everything a 2-year old should be.
It costs £4,750 for a wizzybug, which includes the manufacture of the bug, an assessment from an occupational therapist and support throughout the loan of the wizzybug. Erin & Ryan were so lucky to be able to get funding for the loan of a wizzybug through Designability and only needed to pay a deposit.
A large group of family and friends were due to come together to run the Edinburgh Marathon Relay on 24th May to support Erin, Ryan & Angus by fundraising for Designability and Wizzybug. Although COVID has put a stop to the marathon, the group will not be stopped. Instead, they will hit the roads in their local town on Angus birthday. They would be absolutely over the moon if you felt able to donate a small amount to this amazing cause. Every little helps. This is an amazing charity that has helped provide the McGuigan family with not only a piece of equipment to aid independence, but also something that makes them smile (which is unusual for equipment!) 💙
