Story

In May this year, my Uncle John and I were sat in the Royal Oldham Hospital Family room which is where we had been for the last few days. My Oma (John's Mum - Helen) only 5 weeks before had suddenly become ill and had been taken into hospital where she was diagnosed with a serious liver condition.  My Oma and Opa were supposed to be on their annual 2 month holiday in Holland visiting the family. Instead, the whole family was in the hospital with my Oma where she quickly deteriorated in and passed away only a week later.

This is the same disease that my Grandma (Sandra Kaminsky) died from. My Grandma suddenly became ill in July 2015 where she was told that she had reached final stages of liver disease. Only a few months later, we were sitting with her in a hospice, absolutely distraught.

Whilst we were sitting in the hospital waiting room last May, I received a text from a friend telling me about an Amsterdam Half Marathon this October. My Oma was born in Holland and there is a lot of family history there, which gave John and I even more reason to take on this challenge. We decided subsequently that we would run for Oma and Grandma to raise money for the Foundation for Liver Research.

The Foundation for Liver Research provides research and medical enhancements for liver disease. It is so important to us that we fundraise for this charity so they can continue their important work. We hope any money that we raise from our challenge will contribute to the amazing research that the Foundation undertakes and that lives can be prolonged or saved. If one family can be spared the heartbreak that our family suffered, it will be worth it.

Neither John nor I have ever run for such a long distance before and training is tough! We will be running in memory of Oma (Helen) and Grandma (Sandra) and we have no doubt they will be proud. Please give generously to a worthwhile cause before we get on the plane to Amsterdam to take on our challenge!

If you donate.. you can take part in the competition and win a prize!
