UPDATE 2: Video and photo of my "super sprint" finish in the gallery below ;)
UPDATE: I DONE IT! My first ever FULL MARATHON. in um...5hrs 32mins...ok so I was on all 4s...You can see pictures of my run finish and exploration of the awesome city of Edinburgh in the gallery below. A video will be also be up shortly.
Hello boys and girls, I have just got back home...with suntan and sun burn from....Edinburgh! Is it just me, or is that sentence surreal? Its just me isnt it? Man, am I one naive dumbass, I went up there with woolly jumpers, thick jacket and I ran with a black running outfit...yep, real dumbass.
I was actually supposed to return Sunday night but I decided to miss the flight...somewhat deliberately because after that epic run I had, I really needed to spend another night celebrating with my running partners our achievement and to enjoy the lovely city of Edinburgh for a while longer...to hell with the work I was supposed to do today!
When I say epic run...it was seriously epic. It was so hot and about 2/3rds of the way I suddenly got strains in my calf practically disabling me from going any further, so I had to go off to the sideline and treat it, massage it, do some stretches so that the rest of my body muscles and veins dont suddenly tighten up on me too. It was a point of contemplation...is this it? I came this far and this is where it ends? Then I thought of you guys, my champions of support and encouragement, I thought of those of you watching my progress on runkeeper, then I thought of Get Kids Going charity and then I thought, NO WAY IN HELL IS THIS THE END, so I got back on to the road, I walked slow flexing my joints with dynamic stretching as I trundled forward, I then started to walk briskly until I felt comfortable enough to jog and from that point on I jogged, I couldnt quite do a proper run though for a long while but jogging was still progress and on I went, telling myself I am going to finish...
...and finish I did. Jesus, you have no idea how elated I was. The cheering towards the end had me sprinting to the finishing line. The spectators were fantastic. It tuns out I am in the top half of the finishers at position 7132 out of 23000ish runners. I cant bloody believe that but thats what the stats say. So I guess am quite pleased with that. Nothing compared to my fellow cricket running partners though, Nico (3hrs 32mins) and Emmett (3hrs 59mins). But main thing is I completed the marathon and I have a nice medal (quite weighty too) to show for it.
I know have set this page up so late but its not too late to donate to help disabled children live a healthy, fit and sporting life, to making our next generation a more health and fitness educated generation than we are.
This is another step towards my ultimate fitness goal having started a journey 2 years ago in which I had lost 6 stones and became a health and fitness professional. If you want to read about my initial journey then by all means have a read here:
