Matthew's London Marathon

London Marathon 2021 · 3 October 2021 ·
My name is Matthew, and I'm a serving airman in the Royal Air Force, stationed at RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire. Since I joined the RAF in 2018, I've started to get involved in fundraising for the Royal Air Forces Association and raising awareness of the work they do to help all members of the RAF family, which includes serving regulars and reservists, veterans and their families.
I volunteered to run the London Marathon in aid of RAFA to push myself, and to further the great work that RAFA do in supporting those members of the RAF family that need a little help. Although the COVID-19 pandemic meant that the event I signed up for, the 2020 London Marathon didn't go ahead in the usual format, I am going to have another crack at it for the 2022 event!
I've now ran multiple half marathons and usually find myself pounding the pavements (or trails in nicer weather!) 6 days a week. Long distance running isn’t for everyone, but every penny I raise for RAFA goes towards enriching the lives of service personnel, their families and veterans.
