Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On Saturday 12 January 2013 Rupert and 9 friends are setting off to climb Kilimanjaro. This was an idea hatched by Rupert as an adventure to help celebrate his 50 Birthday and he approached a group of his friends to join him – these guys have come from far and wide – Papua New Guinea to the east and New York to the west, Berkhamsted, London, Gloucestershire and Surrey! They depart on Saturday and spend a few days at the base of the great mountain in the Arusha National Park and foothills of Mount Meru. If all goes to plan they should reach the summit on 21 January.
Rupert has decided to use this opportunity to raise money for our local Hospice of St Francis here in Berkhamsted.
The Hospice of St Francis provides care for people with life limiting illnesses in North West Hertfordshire and the Chiltern area of Buckinghamshire, a catchment area of over 300,000 people.
Based in Berkhamsted, last year they cared for 732 people. Their aim is to improve the quality of life of patients and their families facing the problems associated with life threatening disease. Care is given via the Inpatient Unit, Specialist Home Care, Outpatient appointments and Supportive care providing counselling to loved ones. They also have a specialist service for children affected by the illness of a family member.
The Hospice of St Francis is an independent voluntary hospice and is a registered charity receiving around 20% of its funding from the NHS. They rely on the generosity of the local community to fund the remaining 80% of their costs.
