Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Those of you who know me well may not believe that I am going to run 26 miles.
I have never taken fitness too seriously and although I have never classed myself as being an unfit person, training is something which I have tried to avoid most of the time.
So when my diabetic nurse gave me my latest warning about being over weight and needing to reduce, blood sugars, cholesterol and other things at the beginning of July 2015, I started thinking about how I could try to do this.
By coincidence, the following day someone advertised at work that they were going to try and get the running club revived and was anyone interested in taking part in a 5 mile race.
I replied immediately saying I would like to join the running club, but didn't think I could run 5 miles; and certainly wouldn't manage to race.
In order to prove myself wrong, the next day I went for a run and when I worked out how far I had run it was over 6 miles. It took me almost one and a half hours, not much quicker than walking pace, but I could do it.
I took advice from people about how I could build my running up and straight away started to run three times a week, 2 short fast runs and one longer one.
After just 3 weeks it was suggested that I should enter myself for a race so I would have something to aim for and something to keep me motivated.
Three weeks later I received confirmation that I had been accepted to run on behalf of Clic Sargent in the Virgin Money London Marathon 2016.
So why Clic Sargent.
Clic Sargent supports children and young people with cancer, and their families, from diagnosis onwards. They aim to help the whole family deal with the impact of cancer and its treatment, life after treatment and, in some cases, bereavement.

Many of you will know the story of Benjamin Robinson, the grandson of our good friends, Mick and Leigh.
Benji was diagnosed with leukaemia just a year ago around his 3rd birthday. He has been receiving treatment at the Sheffield Childrens Hospital and was the face of the Childrens Hospital Charity 'Make It Better Day' campaign.
Beni who was 4 this week is doing extremely well and is in remission although he still has about 4 years of treatment to undergo.
Benji and his family have been supported since day one by Clic Sargent, so the charity is very close to home.
