Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
This year I’ve decided to run the 2019 London Marathon. I’ve already started a daunting training programme, so I can give myself the best chance of completing it and hopefully achieving a respectable time - doing myself and the charity I’ve decided to run for proud.
The charity I’m running & raising money for is Contact - an inspiring charity that provides support and guidance to families with disabled children; supporting the many challenges that they may face daily. They work hard to bring families together who are going through the same difficulties, provide financial support and enhance the quality of day-to-day living for these children.
Myself and my family know first hand the challenges that similar families may face, as those of you close to me will know my little brother Aaron was born disabled. He’s an absolute angel and is the happiest go lucky boy you will ever meet, however he’s faced with many challenges every single day and has done his whole life. I couldn’t list everything that he has wrong with him as the list is as long as my arm, but he requires full time care and assistance in all day-to day activities, is fed through his belly, profoundly death and cannot talk. His happiness is solely down to the efforts of my Dad who gave up work when Aaron was born to become his full-time carer; in which they spent the early stages of Aarons life in hospital. 18 years on and hospital trips are still a regular occurrence. Two hero’s in my eyes what they have been through together - which has created an unbreakable father/son bond.
Although my family have never used contact as we have a solid support team within the family, I know there are other families out there that are not this fortunate – in which Contact is an absolute god send. The support they provide to people who need them most is remarkable and their stories are inspiring, which is why I have decided to run for them. You can read more on them and the incredible work they do on their website - https://contact.org.uk/
I wouldn’t change him for the world and in my eyes he is a miracle; but knowing there are charities like this striving to help others is touching. Sometimes we forget just how lucky we really are!
Contact rely heavily on fundraising and donations and without this they would not be able to provide the support and guidance that they do. I’ve set myself a small target of £2000 in support of Contact so any donations would be very much appreciated. If you are generous enough to make a donation please leave your name so I can thank you personally.
In the meantime Il get running!
Much Love
Ryan
