The 112 Bike Ride 2015 · 6 June 2015 ·
Standing Together Against Domestic Violence is a local charity we work with in Fulham. The charity works to promote a co-ordinated, multi-agency community response to domestic violence, ensuring that victims and children are safer, and perpetrators are held to account.
They do an absolutely necessary job and fundraising in this way helps Standing Together continue with their fantastic work.
The cycle route takes us through Windsor Great Park, Berkshire and Oxfordshire. Doesn't sound too bad. No idea about the hills. Don't really want to know about the hills either. Kit and I have never cycled 112k (70 miles) in one day before so we expect this to be a bit challenging. And as I have also never asked for money for anything since a sponsored spell aged 8, please dig deep!
On a serious note, this is why we are doing 112k:
On average, 2 women a week are murdered as a result of domestic abuse in England and Wales. That is a total of 112 women killed a year.
By taking part in Standing Together’s 112, the money I raise will:
• Improve the response to domestic abuse – from statutory frontline response, such as police and health professionals’ response, through to specialist frontline advocacy services.
• Ensure that perpetrators are held accountable through the criminal justice system and perpetrator programmes
• Expand the body of research through survivor consultations.
• Help to reduce the number of homicides that happen each year as a result of domestic abuse
