SCOTLAND: The Big Picture works to make rewilding happen across Scotland, as a solution to the growing climate and biodiversity crises, by influencing opinion and delivering practical change.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page and supporting my 5 mile walk around Chatelherault Country Park. If you'd like to join me feel free to get in touch and we can have a good natter about rewilding along the way!

I believe that rewilding is a natural way to tackle the dual threat of climate change and biodiversity loss.

I support SCOTLAND: The Big Picture because I think they have got the balance right. This charity sees rewilding as an evolving process of nature recovery that leads to restored ecosystem health, function and completeness. A process that delivers increasing social benefits.

When ecosystem health is restored ecosystems function effectively; they store carbon, clean air and water, reduce flood risk and improve soil quality. Giving nature more freedom is an investment in the living systems we all rely on. Rewilding simultaneously tackles the dual threat of climate change and biodiversity loss.

Equally important to me is that they promote ways to make rewilding financially sustainable to demonstrate its role in creating a diverse range of jobs, that for remote communities in particular, can help stop and reverse the trend towards depopulation.

Having grown up in a rural community where the choices were pretty bleak if I stayed, I can recognise the importance of this work. I see huge benefits to both people and nature if we shift our thinking to see ourselves as a part of nature.
