Story

Many thanks your interest in suicide research and prevention. The Suicidal Behaviour Research Laboratory (SBRL) at the University of Glasgow is an internationally leading suicide and self-harm research group.  Through our innovative research, we endeavour to better understand and prevent suicide.  More details of our research can be found at www.suicideresearch.info. If you are interested in supporting our research, we welcome donations of any size.

Mental health research is chronically under-funded and funding for suicide research is in an even worse position. It has recently been estimated (by MQ Mental Health Research) that for every £1 the government invests in mental health research, the general public gives 1/3 of a penny (0.3p) compared to £2.75 for cancer research and £1.35 for research focused on the heart.

We need more high quality research to better identify those at risk of suicide and we need to develop more effective interventions to help those who are especially vulnerable.

Many thanks for your donation (to SBRL via the University of Glasgow Trust), we are incredibly grateful.

Professor Rory O'Connor, Director, SBRL
