SCCC 2017 (Cymru) & Prudential Ride London 2017 · 15 July 2017

Street Action is a UK charity that partners with local agencies in Africa who work directly with street children, particularly those run by former street children. We raise support, build connections and advocate around the issues regarding street children.

Story

This summer I'm riding 300 miles in Wales (from 15-18 July) and then 100 miles in the Prudential Ride London (30 July).

Why? Because I like cycling. And I like raising funds for New Generation, the street child project we support in Burundi.

I know I do this every year (the four day cycle bit). But the money we raise, as a group of cyclists, helps to underpin the work of New Generation. It really does. Thanks for anything you can give. It really is appreciated.

This year, instead of waffling on about the work of New Generation (I'll gladly do that in person!) I want to quote Ben Burns, a more eloquent and succinct fellow cyclist, about why we're riding.

"8 years ago, my friend Joe came up with the genius idea of fundraising for his charity Street Action, by going away for the weekend cycling.

Of course this became a legitimate way to leave the wife and kids and ride our bikes, guilt free! This has evolved over time and we've had many people join us and visited lots of back roads in many countries - we've raised a stack of money which has gone to New Generation, a project supported by Street Action in Burundi. We've seen the money go directly to improving the safety of street kids, giving them opportunities, and bringing healing from horrific and traumatic lives.

We'll keep doing this every year, because it's a win win. We get to ride our bikes and a brilliant project is funded. So, take it from me - this is a small charity with low front-line costs that wastes nothing and gives so much to kids that really need it.

I hope you sponsor me - because, it's not really me you're sponsoring, it's a whole new generation of children in Burundi who will make a new positive impact on this troubled Nation."
