Shravya's 10k Series for The Alzheimer's Society

Shravya's 10k Series for The Alzheimer's Society · 11 June 2015
So running has always been my least favourite form of exercise. I used to think it was boring and it made me anxious as it bought back memories of when I was the chubby child in school and was the last to be picked for the team relay. Ask anyone who knows me, trying to get me to run was impossible.
I went from 0k to 5k in a month and did my first official 5k at the Electric Run on the 2nd of May in around 30mins. I was really proud of myself as it's something I never thought I could do. To push myself a bit more, I have decided to run a 10k a month till Christmas in aid of The Alzheimer's Society.
It's a charity that sits close to my family's heart. Both my parents are GPs in Kent, and my Father is the Dementia Care lead for Thanet and works closely with the local community to support those who need care, as well as their families. The vast majority of causes of dementia cannot be cured, although research is continuing into developing drugs, vaccines and other medical treatments. There is also a lot that can be done to enable someone with dementia to live well with the condition - which is what this charity, and also my Dad focus on.
