We’re the UK’s leading charity for Crohn’s and Colitis. Right now, over 500,000 people in the UK are living with a lifelong disease that many people have never heard of. We’re working to improve diagnosis and treatment; to fund research and to raise awareness.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

You may be thinking Who are Chron's & Colitis UK and what is it?

Chron's and Colitis are types of Inflammatory Bowel Disease. They are not infectious and can affect any part of your gastrointestinal tract anywhere between your mouth and anus. It can cause perforations, ulcerations and inflammation and due to this, can inhibit your body from absorbing vitamins and minerals from your foods which can then lead to Iron, Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Calcium deficiency and go on to cause other issues. The symptoms you can experience could be, severe lethargy, abdominal pain, vomiting, constipation, wind from either end,  diarrhoea and fever. Depending on the severity of the disease, it may be managed by sleeping well, no stress and avoiding foods that may trigger symptoms. But with all of that,  said and done, a flare up of the symptoms may occur anyway. If the disease is quite severe, you may need to take steroids, have parts of your bowel removed and people have died from the disease. There is no cure and they have not found out how or why people get it. It can be classed as an invisible disease as you can't tell someone has it just by looking at them and people really don't want to talk about it if they are diagnosed as they'll be talking a lot about toilet habits and the other symptoms associated with it.

Chron's and Colitis UK do an amazing job supporting it's members. They have helplines set up to assist with weird and wonderful queries you may have from claiming Disability Living Allowance to advice on how to deal with employers who do not understand what it is and can send you a fact sheet. They are helpful, friendly and you feel like they are your support and lifeline when you need someone to talk to about it. They send out regular newsletters and issue "Can't Wait" cards to assist members in asking for a queue jump if required when using public toilets.

This is the first walk that I am doing to raise money for them and I hope this won't be the last. Why don't you join me? It'll be held on Sunday 17th May 2015 at 1400. I will be taking in the sights of York in fancy dress.....the theme is superhero. I already know what I would like to go as. What would you suggest? Also, If you pay me enough......I may just take up your suggestion?
