Story
After years of wanting to do a sky dive, I've found the cause to give me the courage to jump! A friend recently battled pancreatic cancer, she was one of the lucky few and beat it. I think if she can have the courage to go through her challenge, then in comparison jumping out of a plane is easy.
Unfortunately most people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer are told that they may have less than a year to live.
Of all adults with pancreatic cancer, about 19% live for at least 1 year after they are diagnosed. Only 4% live for at least 5 years and only 3% live for at least 10 years.
As with many other types of cancer, the outcome depends on how advanced your cancer is when it is diagnosed. Pancreatic cancer is often diagnosed late. By the time someone has symptoms, the disease is very often quite advanced. Only about 10 to 20% can have surgery.
Despite its high death rate, pancreatic cancer attracts little research funding in comparison with many other cancers. Public donations specifically for pancreatic cancer have been very limited in the past.
We still need more research and clinical trials before the outlook for people with this type of cancer improves.
