Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I have decided to run my first marathon for this local boy, his family and the money they are raising for this amazing charity. I hope that no one reading this ever has to go through what they are going through. But they are finding strength in the fundraising they have committed to and the amazing generosity of their friends, family and strangers. Please read their moving story below, dig deep and send your positive vibes their way:

It’s a bit of an understatement to say that our gorgeous son George hasn’t had the best start to the New Year.

On January 3rd we were told by the doctors at The Royal Marsden Hospital that a lump that we’d found on his back just five weeks earlier (known as Tony the tumour) was in fact cancer. A Primitive Neuro Ectodermal Tumour (PNET) to give it its proper name. George is only four years old.

The news has knocked us sideways. It’s every parent’s worst nightmare and we are so, so scared of what the future holds. But what we do know is that while it’s going to be a tough road ahead, this is one fight Tony the tumour is not going to win.

Treatment begins this week. And over the coming months, will include a combination of intense Chemo, Surgery, Radiotherapy - followed by more Chemo for good measure.

Please help us raise £100,000 for The Royal Marsden Hospital

Seeing all those young children with no hair and tubes coming out of them on our first visit to The Royal Marsden, was truly heartbreaking. Yet the thing that struck us the most was how many of those kids had a smile on their face. It was then that we decided to set up ‘George and the Giant Pledge’, because no child should ever have to have their childhood taken from them in this terrible way.

Little did we know, of course, that George would soon be losing his hair and have tubes sticking out of him, like the kids we saw that first day. But with George and the Giant Pledge we're aiming high and staying positive.

The money raised will go to the children's team at The Royal Marsden. This will help fund much needed research into children's cancer - as well as help The Royal Marsden staff continue the outstanding work they're doing for children and families affected by cancer. We’ve been blown away by the support we’ve received so far, and for that we can’t thank you enough.

But let’s keep it going.

Thank you in advance for your help. Your amazing kindness has given our family a huge lift at this difficult time and will make a massive difference to so many children affected by cancer.
