Story

When cancer strikes young lives CLIC Sargent helps families limit the damage cancer causes beyond their health. Today, 11 more children and young people will hear the devastating news that they have cancer. From diagnosis, CLIC Sargent’s specialist care teams will step in, ready to help, support and guide. CLIC Sargent will fight tirelessly for them, individually, locally and nationally, so that they can focus on the important things. To find out more visit www.clicsargent.org.uk.

In the early weeks of June 16, after nearly a year of serious illness, Connor was diagnosed with having 3 large Brain Tumours.  Our Son was gravely ill, without intervention the outcome was grim.  A Roller Coaster of tests, Scans, Neurosurgery followed.  Once stabilised Connor was Diagnosed with "Metastatic Germinoma".  Three sizeable tumours were situated within the brains ventricles, causing perminent damage to his pituity gland and potentially blocking the Cerebral Aqueduct.  Over a period of months in the Bristol Royal Children's Hospital Connor was stabilised and made well enough to start Radiotherapy.  5 weeks of Radiotherapy followed, testing Connor's resolve and determination.

Throughout the experience CLIC Sargent was our life line, without them we would not have been able to stay as a family beside Connor during his darkest and scariest hours.  CLIC Sargent was instrumental in Connors recovery, providing an essential "Safe" - "Clinically Clean" - "Quiet" environment to recover, especially during his Radiotherapy.  Additionally CLIC Sargent provided advice, mentorship and a shoulder to lean on when we, as a parents were feeling the strain.

Simply put, CLIC Sargent are an indispensable and integral,  if not vital, component of the recovery and rehabilitation of children with Cancer. We leave CLIC Sargent forever in their debt. Educated and in awe of the young people fighting Cancer, who are the toughest of the tough.  I also leave with my Son recovering well and a network of new friends made during the fight against Children's Cancer.
