Story
In October this year it will be 25 years since being paralysed in a car crash at 16 years old. It's fair to say I've had a pretty great, adventurous life despite this. I've also had my fair share of time spent in hospital over the years, most recently at the beginning of this year when I needed surgery on both my elbows to relocate my ulnar nerves. I've fully recovered now and need a challenge to help motivate me to get back to a good level of fitness so here it is - an inclusive triathlon!
Along with my brother Andrew and friend Carrie, also a wheelchair user, we are pushing, cycling and swimming to raise money for Humanity and Inclusion. HI is a quite fantastic charity that works with people with disabilities, injured people and vulnerable communities in situations of poverty, conflict and natural disaster, making sure these individuals are included in relief efforts and providing specialist rehabilitation care.
This is a cause very close to my heart because I have seen first hand what life is like for people in developing countries with injuries similar to mine, and it's almost unimaginable. HI is helping to change this.
HI is also instrumental in the ongoing fight against armed violence and landmines. Please check out their website.to see just how great they are!
