Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit our Just Giving page. Our mission is to benefit underpriviledged communities at destinations in developing countries that host Saga holidaymakers. Not simply by giving money, but by supporting sustainable projects that empower and assist local communities and provide increased opportunities for them to benefit from tourism. The Saga Charitable Trust receives tremendous support from Saga customers who have visited projects whilst on holiday, magazine readers, and Saga volunteers. Fundraising activities on board Saga’s cruise ships have also been very successful. Saga staff organise regular fundraising activities such as quiz nights, and the recent fundraising fortnight was another great success, with holidaymakers around the world taking part in the ‘walk a mile to raise a smile’ event. The Trust has significantly expanded its activities and remains focused on the key areas of education, training, healthcare and income generation. In Cambodia, the Trust is funding a 3 year school development programme. This programme is being funded through This Life Cambodia to develop and enhance the quality of teaching and increase attendance at the Chub Ta Trav School. In Borneo, the Trust is supporting the San Damiano Convent School Hostel by way of funding repairs to the toilets and showers along with providing fire safety appliances, mosquito nets and repainting the boys and girls hostels. In Nepal, the Trust is working with the Organisation for Community, Child and Environment Development (OCCED) by funding a Women’s empowerment programme in the Pokhara area. This programme includes literacy, skills development, micro-enterprise and marketing training over 1 year and will help a group of 20 women develop a form of sustainable income. For more information about our work and the projects we support please visit www.sagacharitabletrust.org Help us to continue this amazing work by making a donation now. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
