Thanks for visiting this page which is celebrating Sage's 8th year as an amazing and beautiful autistic child who we have had the blessing of parenting.
Every year we ask for donations to SNAP rather than expensive gifts. We are trying to raise Sage to be humble and have gratitude for the material things she already has. Our mornings usually start with gratitude lists for not living in the Third World and having access to clean water, food and healthcare. If you still feel you would like to get her a prezzie, a second hand book or creative or educational toy would be fine. Sage is particularly enamoured with anything to do with marine life.
So, to generate another year of good karma for the family, we are helping SNAP. They held our hands through Sage's autism diagnosis, there was always a cuppa and a friendly face to great us. Volunteers play with the children so the parents can mingle and build a support network, and their library of special needs books is invaluable. We feel we owe our sanity to SNAP, and we have gratitude that Sage's difficulties now are just mainly around toileting.
For us, we were once the pre-parents who used to judge children having meltdowns and screaming in the supermarket, then Sage came into our life, remembering all our friends' mobile numbers, able to quote facts about the voltage of electric eels and so, so, so extremely honest with no filter. We would encourage you to offer help to the parent who is experiencing a child with a meltdown. It's a situation where we have felt isolated and judged. A simple acknowledgement from another parent makes the world of difference. We wouldn't change any aspect of Sage, although we have noticed she's like a human dictaphone- grenade, and at any opportune moment, she likes to educate others on 'the truth' of any given situation! She recently asked a half naked man " What gives you the right to think the whole of Brentwood wants to see your nipples?"!!!!!!
On that note, we wish you and your appropriately covered nipples a fabulous day!
