Story

Sam's story

When Sam was just 6 months old his devastated parents were told he had Cerebral Palsy. Worse- they were told he probably wouldn't live to see out his teenage years.  Operation followed operation, then finally he caught a cold which he just couldn't recover from, and so was given a Tracheostomy to breath through.

During these excruciating first few years the family received support from Jessie May Trust" whose qualified and compassionate nurses took them under their wing and gave them support and advise in the comfort of their own home. Sam is still classed as 'life limited', and so the visits from the Jessie May nurses continue.

I know how much Sam and his parents benefit and want to ensure more families who receive the heart breaking diagnoses of a life-limiting condition for their child can get the help and support they so desperately need.

Jessie May Trust

Jessica May died at home aged 4 1/2 months surrounded by her family and supported by a team of nurses. Her parents created Jessie May to ensure that every child who is not expected to reach adulthood receives nursing care within the home.

The Trust is almost entirely reliant upon voluntary funding, and encourages donations from individuals, corporate organisations, community groups and grant-making or charitable trusts. No charge is made to families using the services of the charity.

Since Jessie May was founded in 1996 they have supported over 175 children and their families in the Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset area.
