Three years ago I took up running to "find myself " and in a moment of madness last year I decided to apply for a place in the London Marathon and was incredibly lucky and shocked to get a ballot  place.

My very dear friend who has run the last three London Marathons was going to help me train and prepare for the big day. Sadly she has recently been diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome, a debilitating disease which has left her unable to walk, this is the reason I am even more determined to run this race for her and the charity GAIN that has given her so much support during this terrible time.

In what has been a difficult year for all charities, GAIN is supporting more people than ever and really do need our help. I have gone from training with the Ogogos, to Lowestoft Parkrun and now the London Marathon. Please, please donate as much or as little as you can to make a difference to this amazing charity. Guillain-Barré syndrome is a rare autoimmune condition affecting the peripheral nervous system, usually leading to temporary or long-term paralysis. Around 80% of those with GBS will make a good recovery, but between 5-10% of people will not survive and the other 10-15% may be left with severe mobility or dexterity issues.
