Dentaid is one of the leading oral health charities in the world. Whilst still providing refurbished dental equipment, in recent years the charity has played vital roles in oral health promotion such as establishing innovative school prevention programmes and initiating various training schemes.

This is my new very challenging and exciting project mission which I aim to complete by the time I take a dental team out in 2015:-

To build a permanent dental clinic in Nyahururu for a local, dedicated dentist that I have been working with since 2010

I have previously been to the Nyahururu region of Kenya on 2 occassions, taking vital dental equipment and materials to aid the communities in the area. I work alongside a dedicated local dentist who truly believes in helping the people in the area. We travel with the portable dental chair to areas in need of dental treatment. We also work in his dental clinic which is made of wood.

With the donated materials and equipment, which I personally take over or have shipped there, we carry out free dental treatment to all those that need it and that are suffering in pain.

We also carry out treatments in his current dental clinic which is now rotting, being eaten and falling apart. This is desperately in need of being rebuilt. The plan is to build a permanent clinic from stone/blocks. This will protect the vital dental equipment that he has and any more that I can provide him with in the future. It will also mean that he will be able to continue his good work for the communities for years to come.

Since starting my work with Ben Mburu in Kenya in 2010 we have managed to expand his work to now include a technician working alongside him to make dentures for those that require them. Ben does not just carry out extractions but he provides a fantastic range of dental treatments including the basic fillings to Root canal Treatments.

Ben Mburu is a strong believer in the dental ethos of prevention is better than cure. This is why when I visit we head out to educate the communities and provide toothbrushes and the knowledge they need to improve their oral health for themselves.

We need your help to make this possible, so any donations big or small ,will go directly to where it is needed.

Here are some of my events that I have already undertaken to raise the funds for Kenya over the last 10 years:-

1) 16 mile sponsored walk in a British Nuclear,Chemical, Biological Suit with the added Flak jacket and respirator on 11th Feb 2012. It was a real affort in the last 6 miles. My niece managed the whole walk with me, we suffered with severe blisters and muscle strains but it was so worth it!

2) 10,000ft sky dive

3) 175ft abseil off Newport transporter bridge

4) A 9 hour Karate-athon along with fellow members of Ikkyo Dojo

5) 1 mile swim in my pyjamas

6) Bag packing in supermarkets on numerous occasions and other smaller events such as raffles and dental poster competitions

In donating to this worthy cause you will be helping a population of 164,000 and you will know that all your money is going towards preventing the Kenyan people suffering with toothache and worse.

During my visit in 2010 a 5 yr old boy walked with his mum and dad for 4 hours to come and visit us in the hope we would treat him, because he was in pain. People walked for hours and travelled for miles just to see us and we treated over 200 people with free dental treatment.

During my latest visit in 2012 we carried out free treatment to over 175 people in just one day! It was a hard, tiring day but so worth it when you see the relief and gladness of the people you treat. We offered free treatment in an IDP camp of 9,000 people and visitied 6 schools and numerous deprived areas just to give you an idea of what I do.

To put a smile back on these peoples faces doesnt take much just a small donation will go a long way. Every single penny of your donation goes towards dental equipment and gets to the place its needed.

Please help me raise the money for this vital clinic and future equipment. You will be helping not just a few individuals but a population of 164,000 and its not just a one off event, it will continue to help for years to come.
