This year is a significant year for me, it’s my 50^th year on the planet and what better way to celebrate than to raise money for an amazing charity like Thrive (who, incidentally, celebrate their 40th year this year).

They are the leading gardening for health charity and provide social and therapeutic horticultural programmes for people living with disabilities,
ill-health, or who are isolated, disadvantaged or vulnerable. It’s Not Just
Gardening though…Thrive run programmes like ‘Pathways’, for adults whose mental health means they need an environment designed to minimise stress and anxiety and ‘Life Changers’ -for people who have experienced a life changing condition. 

Through programmes like these and others, the Therapists use the garden as a safe and secure environment in which to develop a person’s ability to socialise, make friends and gain practical skills to gain independence.

Your donation will support Thrive to continue to run these valuable programmes and also run training programmes for other practitioners to set up their own gardening programmes and projects; so do take your time to visit their website www.thrive.org.uk or just have a browse at the wonderful photos or read some of the client stories on my page here.

I have always felt strongly about the healing power of nature, the outdoors and gardens- the last year has been particularly tough on us as a family, so I’m glad we’ve had our garden to escape to and access to nearby woods to drag the poor dog to for a march or run.

So, that said, what better way to support this great charity than by  throwing myself into something outdoors, muddy and wet! I have challenged myself to 3 obstacle races. The first is ‘Spartan’ in May and is a qualifier to take part in the second race in June at the European Championships in Poland. The last (if I survive the first two), is to race in the World Championships here in Brentwood in October. So please, I appeal to your giving nature and sympathy, help me get through the next few gruelling months of training so I can qualify and take part in these OCRs to raise money for Thrive.
