My name is Sally. I was born on the 29th February 1996. It was a leap year! That's me in the little picture with my cat Dougal. We cuddle up together and make plans.
Last week, we made a plan to do a sponsored walk for the PDSA, (on the 24th of November ). Dougal wanted to do the walk too because he usually comes along on my evening walks, when we just walk to the top of the road and back. He walks ahead and rolls over on the ground. (Dougal doesn't wear a lead - he's a cat!). I told him there are some big dogs who might chase him and that's why he can't come with us in the car to the park when we go there in the mornings. He usually waits for me to get home on the wall outside our house. I think he worries about me. I worry about him too when he goes out throught the cat flap at night with Yogi my other cat. Sometimes, I can't sleep until they come back home.
I go to the park everyday unless it is really wet and windy. Last year I couldn't walk very well at all. Only about 100 metres and then I had to stop every so often for a sit down. The vet said I had arthritis. (When she first said it, I thought she said I had Arthur and I wondered what she was on about?) Anyway, the medicine the vet gave me made me feel sick and I couldn't take it and so I had to try some others and they didn't work on me either, so now, I'm just taking some natural supplements and I feel much better. I take GOPO and Seraquin and they don't make me feel sick at all. I walk in the park every day (I walk about a mile) and I don't need to sit down much anymore, but usually stop at the cafe for a snack , so I should be able to do my sponsored walk quite easily.
I've also got little cataracts and they can be really annoying in bright sunlight. We always walked in the shade last year, because bright sunlight made me think I was walking into a wall. I would judder and sit down. Bright car lights do it too and sometimes, when the house light is swithched on suddenly it can also happen but not as much as it used too. I've got some doggie sunglasses now, which means I can walk in the sunlight instead of the shade ,which is great because I love going to the lake to see the ducks. I felt a bit stupid in them at first because two collies were teasing me, but now I really like wearing them. I'm also using some really good NAC eye drops which are supposed to dissolve cataracts and they seem to be working because everyone says my eyes are less cloudy and I'm much more alert. I think I am too.
I'm doing my walk to raise money for dogs and cats and rabbits and hamsters and budgies and all the other animals the PDSA treat everyday, who haven't been as lucky as me. I've hardly ever had to visit my vet. A dog I know had a broken leg - she was hit by a car and the PDSA fixed it.
I'm planning to walk about a mile. I've been practicing and I've got a nice waterproof hoodie to keep me warm and dry. I don't mind how much you sponsor me for, as little or as much as you want and you can either sponsor me for the whole walk or for each 100 metres.. (I do like to have a snack stop at the park cafe - I hope nobody minds. Sometimes I have a snack stop at the entrance of the park before we start!)
I'll post some more pictures soon. (They are mostly of me and Dougal cuddling.Yogi is a bit camera shy.), I was planning to have my walk filmed and then post the video and pictures here. In the meantime I wanted to show you the park where I'm going to do my walk and my new waterproof jacket.
If you want to sponsor me, or make a donation on my behalf for the PDSA , please visit the PDSA website and donate via their online portal or send them a cheque. (It's always better to check their web address first yourself and make sure you are donating to their organisation, as there are so many fake web pages around these days!). Thank you Sally (and Dougal).
P.S. I know my taget is high, but you never know?
