Karma Nirvana's a charity which raises awareness and provides a helpline for victims of forced marriages and honour-based abuse. The helpline gives both emotional and practical support to victims and gets an average of 700 calls every month. 

Jasvinder Sanghera's (the founder of this charity) book about how she faced these issues of forced marriage and honour-based abuse gave me an insight as to how much this can affect people and how surprisingly common it is. On top of this, being such a personal and sensitive issue means that victims are reluctant to reach out for help. The workshops, seminars and awareness campaigns are what makes this such an important charity for me. It helps break the silence. 

On a lighter note, some of you who know me might know my brother also ran a half marathon years ago. So rest assured I'll be training to beat his time and complete the half-marathon in a somewhat competitive time...

As for donations, size doesn't matter but as a rough guideline. 

£5 pays for an awareness pack

£10 pays for a victim to access free helpline support

£100 pays for 4 classroom workshops to raise awareness amongst students
