Solo Channel Swim · 9 July 2015

As the East Midlands’ only hospice for children and young people, we brighten the short lives of babies, children and young people who come to Rainbows. We want them to have fun and make special memories. We are also here to support their loved ones through the most difficult times of their lives.

Story

I swam the English Channel on the 31st July -1st August. Whilst this was a lifelong want of mine, the swim was primarily about raising as much money as possible for Rainbows hospice, who do fantastic work for life limited children and young people in the later stages of their illnesses. I funded all the money required for the swim so that every penny raised went to charity.

To qualify for this swim, I swam Lake Windermere as part of the British Long Distance Swimming Association and placed 8th man in a time of 6 hours 44 minutes. Additionally, in 2010 I took part in a cross channel relay as part of the team Dover 'N' Over which raised money for the charity Jane Tomlinson Appeal.

Things didn't go to plan on the day and the swim took 22 hours and 23 minutes to complete. 8 hours longer than I had planned for.

Conditions were very bad and caused every other swimmer and their escort boats to turn back unsuccessful.
