Event: Purple Wave 2022 in the Great Manchester Run, on 22 May 2022
One in two of us will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in our lives. Here at Manchester, we're tackling the disease from all angles. Help us create a life-saving cancer research centre and re-write the future of cancer.

Story

On Sunday, 22 May I'll be putting on my training shoes and taking part in the Purple Wave challenge, to help re-write the future of cancer.  As with most people it is a cause very close to my heart and as I type this I wish there was a cure to take it away from a very good friend of mine.

5 years ago I ran the Manchester 10K thinking I was the fittest I had even been, little did I know that 1 month later I would be struck down with a virus that turned into fatigue & years of a number of therapies to get myself better.  One of the things I really struggled with was my running, I would have panic attacks and just couldn't pick it back up.

My new years resolution this year was to start my running again from the beginning & with the help of my wonderful friends and going out for chatty runs I am slowly getting back to doing the sport I love.

I decided that the Manchester 10K would be a great run to do to celebrate the end of a chapter and the start of a new one.

I have been involved with re-write cancer through my work with the amazing alumni team at The University of Manchester & I wanted to support this wonderful charity.

We all know someone whose life has been changed by cancer, which is why researchers in Manchester are working hard to improve how cancer is treated and help more patients with cancer get back to normal life. This is where we can help. Working in partnership with Europe's largest cancer hospital, The Christie, and Cancer Research UK, The University of Manchester is building a world-leading cancer research centre. The new centre will bring together one of the largest concentrations of doctors, nurses and researchers in Europe all working together to tackle cancer head-on. But this will only be possible with the help of people like us. Please join me in re-writing the future of cancer by sponsoring me today!
