Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In September 1999, my dearly loved husband, Ian, suffered end stage kidney failure.  He had 10 years of haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis (the latter enabled him to dialyse at home and work for a few years).  In July 2008, Ian was given a new lease of life when he received a donor kidney transplant.  This wonderful gift lasted 10 years after which Ian returned to 3 weekly - 4 hour haemodialysis sessions at Peterborough City Hospital from June 2018.  Sadly, Ian passed away on 3 June 2019 of Lymphoma.

Twenty years under the care of the amazing doctors and nurses at Peterborough's Renal Unit, our family is forever grateful for their dedication and support.  We wanted to do something to show our gratitude and to help others in their care.

So in place of funeral flowers, we asked for donations to the Renal Unit.  Friends and family kindly donated £1,500 at the service which is already being put towards a desperately needed new dialysis machine for the hospital's Renal Unit on Ward A8 where Ian spent a lot of time as an inpatient.  https://www.nwangliaft.nhs.uk/about-us/trust-news/donations-from-grateful-wife-of-former-patient/

There are just four dialysis machines on the ward for inpatients and they desperately need another one.  Ian spent many weeks on this ward in the last 18 months.

Our donation will go some way to help them get this machine but they cost about £12,000.  Our family dearly want to continue to raise more money to get this machine asap for them, in Ian's memory, and we would love your help!

Thank you so much
