Sam and Shelley's Sponsored walk

Sponsored walk · 30 April 2021
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
A little bit about us, Sam and Shelley have been a couple since second year in high school, and Sam proposed to Shelley in front of the whole college they were attending last year and luckily she said yes!!! They both have autism, and were looking for a way to give back to the people who help them, so to do this they are going to do a sponsored walk around Strathclyde Park, please give us as little or as much as much as you can afford because the charity we have chosen COVEY befriending is close to both our families hearts.
Shelley and I, have been going to covey for 8 years and it's a big part of our lives.
Covey has lots of different groups available, to a wide and varied range of people, from young people, to young adults and they even cater to adults/parents who need some support.
However, Sam and Shelley’s favourite group is the Covey ANGELS which is for young adults with additional support needs, (this is the group Sam and Shelley attend with their friends) in this group they meet up weekly, and can talk with friends in a supported environment, and can get the chance to experience different activities they might not have access to all whilst maintaining dignity and confidentiality at all times. Some of the activities they have experienced is a visit to Wiston lodge, crafts, swimming, drumming, quiz nights, AGM activities, pantomime outings, visits to Glasgow at Christmas and going out for dinner. This group is a positive influence to all who attend and the staff and volunteers, are simply amazing.
Covey is a big part of both of Sam and Shelley’s families too, with groups like the Covey timeout sessions which Sam's little sister goes to where she can get some support from young people in the same family settings as herself and she knows that she isn't alone, here her friends understand how she feels and can relate to each other all whilst doing fun activites.
There are also groups for parents/adults (PACT) which offer the same as the timeout sessions which Is support from peer groups in similar situations
Covey Befriending isn't just limited to these 3 groups, there are far more groups and there is also 1-1 befriending. If you would like to learn more their website is www.coveybefriending.org.uk
