Aspire Channel Swim 2010 · 5 December 2010 ·

Every two hours someone in the UK is paralysed by a spinal cord injury. It can happen to anyone at any time and no one is prepared for how it will change their life. Aspire is a national charity that provides practical help, supporting spinal cord injured people from injury to independence.

Story

Channel swim - DONE! For all those that promised sponsorship and have not had the chance to do so, you can still sponsor me! My page is still open and I would love you to help me meet my target.

I first spotted the poster for the Channel swim (22 miles/1,967 lengths in 12 weeks), in my local gym - HOOFERS, good pool, and friendly staff. I have always loved swimming and thought this would be a great way to raise some funds for Aspire, a national charity providing support, advice and funding to people with spinal cord injuries in the UK.

On Thursday 18th November, I completed the challenge, 2 weeks before the deadline!

With your help, I will raise enough money to contribute towards buying Smart Nav technology which will enable people with high level injuries to use a computer without the use of their hands. Some of us might feel stuck to one all day, but at least we can use our digits. 1,200 people become paralysed in the UK each year. Some of you may have experience of this through a family member, friend or colleague, as a result of an accident or playing sport. Visit www.aspire.org.uk to find out more.

Please donate WHATEVER you can. It ALL makes a difference.
