World Donkey Day!

8th May is the official World Donkey Day so we thought it would be fitting to tell you today about our forthcoming appeal launch on August 31st for an onsite donkey hospital.

Mary Berryman founded the charity in February 1995, it started out as the Golden Oldies, in August of the same year it then became officially The Flicka Foundation. Mary Berryman’s birthday was 31st August, so it seems perfect to name such a date as Flicka’s official birthday too!

To start the ball rolling with some fund raising for the hospital, one of our long term dedicated volunteers, Samantha Gill (that's me!) is doing a sponsored wing walk on Wednesday 25th September  funded and arranged herself, at Bodmim Airfield.

‘ The pilot, Mike Dentith, flies the Boeing Stearman used for this special event and is an extremely experienced wing walking and display pilot.
They have both featured on television on several occasions including when Phillip Schofield walked aloft for the Duke of Edinburgh Awards Challenge programme’.

After brief instructions I will go for my flight which will include low level fly-pasts with steep climbs and withstand wind pressure of over 100mph

Yes, she is as mad as a box of frogs and we are sure she won’t mind us telling you she is a ‘mature’ lady ;-) eh Sam?

All these funds will kick start the preview to the Lonely & Primrose Donkey Hospital Appeal. Every single penny raised will go to this cause.
