Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I did plan on running the birmingham half marathon on 21st October to raise money for the muscular dystrophy campaign, but unfortunately i have a reoccuring injury that has made me not able to participate in this event. I have infact torn a disc in my lower back and have a mechinical problem with my pelvic joint that is causing me a lot of pain, and my Doctor has advised that running a half marathon with my current injury and not completing a full training regime would make the problem worse. I am absolutely gutted i cant participate in this event but i shall get myself back to full fitness and enter an event in the early part of next year. Please continue to show your support to the muscualr dystrophy campaign as this page will remain active. I will continue with the planned Ladies Night raffles and tombola, and the selling of trolley tokens and badges. Please continue to read my story and why this charity means so much to me!! Thanks again!! :)

I have chosen this charity as my father and uncle both have a rare form of muscular dystrophy. My father was diagnosed with limb girdle MD when i was only 8 years old and my younger brother 5. So growing up as lively boisterous kiddies wanting to play fight and have a kick around in the park with dad was always difficult to do.

During the 14 years its been since my father was diagnosed, has been a rollercoaster ride to say the least. Different diagnosis, illness, and even strokes have played a big part in our childhood. Home renevations and hospital appointments became second nature to us both growing up. However even though it was difficult to accept as a child it has become easier to understand and to come to terms with as we are now both old enough to know whats going on.

Muscular dystrophy and other related muscle dieseases cause muscles to waste and weaken. More than 70,000 babies, children, and adults are effected by this disease in the UK.

The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign leads the fight against muscle disease by funding world class research, offering free information and advice about care and support, providing grants towards equiptment, and campaigning to raise awareness and to bring about change.
