Hello! A few months ago I decided to run the Birmingham Half Marathon in memory of my father who died from cancer in 2002. During his lifetime he helped
raise money for a multitude of charities through his work for the Gentlemen’s
Night Out and he was the First President of the Gentleman’s Night Out Charity
Committee.
Having decided to undertake the 'gruelling' training, where I have developed shin splints and my right foot goes numb every time I run (PHYSICAL PAAAINN), my lover Adam Griffiths thought he would kindly assist me during the training and on the race itself. This is a very selfless act because he has also agreed to run it with me, which one assumes will be at a considerably slower pace than he would be happy with. And I am not sure if he is aware but when my foot does go numb, I expect to hitch a ride on his back 'piggy back' stylee oink oink.
Sooooo... As the two of us have endured INTENSE PHYSICAL PAIN i, i.e., shin splints, gargantuan blisters, having to buy expensive running shoes which actually didn't make that much difference, the days after a big run where we cannot move from being so worn out and quite bizarrely shoulder problems (?) we would like to know that we have done all this for some good by being sponsored.
I am quite aware of the short notice (the marathon is next Saturday) but through the haze of intensive training we forgot to fundraise as we were merely hoping to improve our fitness to a level where we can actually run the whole race.
PLEASE sponsor us to
run the half marathon - the more money we raise the more we can help those who
are not as fortunate as ourselves. I want to be able to make my father proud of
me, even if he is not here to say so himself. And as Adam can never meet my old man and do manly bonding things this is probably the closest he can get to pleasing THE BIG DADDY.
My father's gift was organising events that helped raise huge amounts of money, my organisation skills are somewhat lacking so I am using my amazing fitness as a means to raise money.
Visit the website for the GNO charity to marvel at all the amazing work they do...

I will be running for We Are Making A Difference, which is a part of the Gentlemen's Night Out Charity

Beneficiaries
The following offers an indication of those
individuals and organisations supported by the Gentlemen's Night Out Committee.
Throughout the year, the Committee also receives and responds to other
applications for funds.
We believe the Gentlemen's Night Out charity is unique.
There are no administration overheads, thus every penny raised is distributed
directly to an individual or an organisation with total neutrality.
Each
application for funding is carefully considered with the proposal and the
intended beneficiary being visited by members of the Appeals' Committee in
order to ensure that an allocation is made with the appropriate sensitivity.
