On 28th July 2009 I was given the news I never thought I'd here my dr said I'd got a brain tumour it was found accidentally after having a brain infection called encephalitis so I wasn't sure if it was luck or the worst news ever I was than put on close monitoring Mri scans every 3-6 mth in July 2011 they was a significant change causing concern so I underwent brain surgery called craniotomy the tumour came back as a who grade 2 astrocytoma . I than went back to 3/6mth closely monitored Mri scans again they was a slight change in 2013 I was given the option of sitting and waiting to see if the tumour that had changed went on its own and I decided to do that as my family had just lost my Nannan to a brain tumour my friend and my auntie was getting married and I had so much to look forward to I'm so glad I said sit and wait as in July the slight growth had gone and it had reduced back to the same as it was before . I than went back to regular mri scans in 2014 my They was significant growth again and I had to have surgery the tumour came back as a who grade 2 oligodendroglioma/astrocytoma combined it could have possibly been this previous but with new testing a its have to know as research has come quite far over the years . Afew weeks after this craniotomy I became really unwell feverish and my face swelled up it was confirmed I had a severe brain infection and needed more surgery I was heartbroken I was soo looking forward to my sisters wedding that weekend I couldn't stop the tears my surgeon was amazing and helped me get to my sisters wedding and she looked amazing I'm so greatful to the hospital for everything they did I had the surgery to remove the infected skull on the Sunday morning after my sisters wedding my surgeons registra took me into theatre and did a fantastic job and took great care of me I than had 6 weeks treatment through drip to clear the infection I than had to be infection free for 3-6mth so in Jan 2015 I had a titanium plate fitted where the bone was removed what a year 2014 was I celebrated my 30th birthday in February with relief to have reached it with close friends and family it was a lovely evening than in March I started feeling unwell again so I went to my gp they treat me for infection on antibiotics I still felt the same they took bloods they came back normal so I contacted the neuro oncology nurses at the Hallamshire they spoke to 1 of the surgeons and got me an emergency Mir booked this confirmed the brain tumour was growing again so I decided to sit and wait hoping it would go like 2013 but in July the growth was still there so I choose to sit and wait again as I didn't want to be ill through the 6wks holidays in sept I had another scan the growth was still there but had a new area so I was booked into theatre. Unfortunately this time I was given the news I thought I was ready to hear as wed feared these results and I thought I'd always gone in prepared to hear the worse but nobody could ever prepare themselves to be told there brain tumour had formed from a slow growing brain tumour to a malignant aggressive brain tumour that wasn't curable I'm now starting radiotherapy to slow down the growth. my husband simon has decided to put his mind into organising a familynfund raising day to raise awareness and help raise money for a charity who are solely supporting brain tumour patients and there friends/relatives we would be grateful for all of your support and hope you can all attend or donate to my just giving page raffle donations and volunteers would also be a great help please message Simon on 07748948742 or via email on scoobdoo04@hotmail.co.uk
