Story

I have not ran a half marathon before but have watched the Great North Run each year on TV and added it to my bucket list for this year. I will be running with friends who are also running for charities close to their hearts. We plan to start training now but in the 12 weeks before the race we will follow a more intense training program. On 31st May, I completed a 10k run as part of my training in 53 minutes. I have also booked a place on to a 5k colour obstacle run the week before the GNR...

With an ex-professional national hunt jockey, Fergus King, as my boyfriend of five years and a personal love of racehorses, I couldn't think of a more appropriate charity to raise money for. I am an ROR judge on both conformation and ride panels and enjoyed various judging appointments and teaching at clinics on behalf of ROR in 2014/2015. I have ridden out on national hunt and flat yards around my full time teaching job and have owned a winning point-to-pointer, Jack Boland. I have rehomed horses from these yards and enjoyed watching them make partnerships in new homes. My most memorable, rewarding and successful memories were shared with a very special retrained racehorse, Stevey's Lad, who I was lucky enough to retrain and jockey to qualify for HOYS 2012 to finish 7th, amongst other wins at national championships, and to qualify for HOYS 2013 to finish 9th. This run will be in memory of him, and many others who have made special memories and friendships in their new homes beyond racing...

I hope to raise awareness of this charity by running the Great North Run and promote the retraining of racehorses beyond their racing careers.

In the past I have raised money for other equestrian charities such as £725 for the Hunt Staff Benefit Society and over £100 when I was in secondary school for the ILPH.

Please support me by donating and spreading the word. To text a donation please text 'RORS87' plus the amount you wish to donate to 70070.
