Story
Samantha started suffering from headaches in early April, by the beginning of May the headaches were so debilitating that she had no option other than to spend her time in bed being treated for a suspected sinus infection (our GPs diagnosis).
The GP had referred Samantha for a CT scan, but with a four week waiting list the appointment came too late for Samantha.
Following admission to A&E on 12th May 2018 a MRI scan revealed a large brain tumour. That night Samantha underwent life saving surgery to reduce the size of the tumour.
Samantha recovered well from the surgery and we were making arrangements for Samantha to come home and undertake courses of radiotherapy and chemotherapy. During the night of 31st May 2018, Samantha's condition deteriorated and she lost consciousness. Further scans revealed that further surgery was not an option for Samantha.
Samantha was transferred to the Pilgrims Hospice where she was kept comfortable and pain free. Samantha sadly passed away on 9th June 2018.
Samantha will be sadly missed by all that had the pleasure to know her. Samantha leaves two children (Taylor 8 & Katie 6).
The above illustrates how quickly this type of cancer can take hold. Having spent the last month as a passenger watching this horrendous disease take Samantha's life. As a family we have decided that we need to draw a positive by devoting our time to raising money to support the work of the Brain Tumour Charity.
Little is known about what causes Glioblastomas. Further research will enable earlier diagnosis and improved treatment so in the future survival rates can be improved.
