“Parkinson’s disease became a part of my life when my mother was diagnosed five years ago. The battle for a diagnosis was only the first hurdle followed by a never ending flow of peculiar symptoms, changes to daily life and continuous experimentation with medication and treatment. She was also diagnosed at a time of major cuts to the NHS, impacting the number of Parkinson’s specialists available, waiting times and the quality of care received. Currently over 10 million people are living with Parkinson’s worldwide.

I’m running in solidarity with my sister and many others whose loved ones suffer from this incredibly debilitating and misunderstood disease and to raise some funds towards further research.

Thank you to everyone who has helped me to reach my first target of £288; the amount it costs to run the new Parkinson’s benefits and employment advice service for one day - particularly relevant for sufferers on low income or those effected before retirement. I am so moved by everyone’s support! However, I’m still fundraising until the end of March!
