London Marathon 2022 · 2 October 2022 ·
"LGBT+ young people are twice as likely to have been bullied compared to their peers and are twice as likely to suffer from depression as a result"
I found this statistic truly heartbreaking. Imagine how difficult it would be to be born into a world where you feel like you don't quite fit in; where you're not sure of who you are and you have a very real sense that some people will treat you differently for simply being true to yourself.
I am running the London marathon this October and want to use this opportunity to raise awareness and funds for a truly amazing charity that I've been volunteering with over the past few years - Just Like Us
Just Like Us is an LGBT+ young people's charity whose mission is to empower young people to champion LGBT+ equality. The charity helps train school staff to support LGBT+ young people; build safe spaces through pride groups; provide LGBT+ inclusive resources and education; run an ambassador programme to help LGBT+ young people develop their skills and find their voice.
All the things I wish I had access to when I was growing up.
I dedicate my 26.2 miles to the brave souls who find pride in being LGBT+ and celebrate life everyday.
